The Kenduri Khawin.

June 28th, 2010, posted in Random rants, Shennanigans, Travel

Two post back, as you guys know, were on the brief introduction on Kampung Parit Penghulu, the homestay kampung that I lived in while i was in Melaka.

The first thing we did when we were united with our foster parents, Pak Cik Lokman and his wife is to attend KENDURI KHAWIN! (: I can haz rendangs!!!! :P

We were one of those lucky bunch who gets to attend kenduri. Other people were not so lucky because their foster parents do not have a car to bring them around.

These are the foods served there. Rendang ayam, Kurma and Buah Nangka! All of it are ograsmic.

Ok here’s the epic #phail part. Feeq a.k.a Meaningfool a.k.a Feeqsays ask me :

WHERES THE RECEPTION COUNTER? DO WE NEED TO REGISTER?

Haha. Seriously, Pak Man and his wife and me LOL’ed at Feeq for not knowing how Kenduri Khawin is held. :P From that moment, i jokingly called Feeq Melayu Murtad :P But honestly, you cant blame him cuz he is from *coughs* Singapore.

IMG_2335

Basically anyone from anywhere can just walk in, sit down eat and have fun without the need of worrying whether to register or not. You dont even need to give ang pow or anything. All you have to do is fill the place up and eat away. Now that’s the true spirit of the Kampung people.

Not only that, foods in Kenduri Khawin in Kampungs were never catered instead were cooked in a gotong-royong sesion with family members, friends and neighbors.

IMG_2338 IMG_2339 IMG_2344 IMG_2343

Like any other Malay wedding, there a silat performances but with different variation! This Silat is done by a silat sifu.

IMG_2346

How the place looks like!

Then we headed back to home where ANOTHER kenduri khawin was held. But this time, its Pak Cik Lokman’s neighbor. It’s a lil different but the food rocks at the end of the day :P

IMG_2347

IMG_2348

IMG_2356

Yup, this is the different variation of the silat. Somehow they use kids as their performers and theres one guy’s hairstyle beats JONYKT’s one kau kau :P

IMG_2357 IMG_2358

IMG_2361

Ok here’s where they bersanding. (:

Yup, so this part is where we enjoyed ourself and feasted ourselves with Kenduri Khawin done on Malays Customs. We learned alot on the traditional food, ways and performances during a Kenduri Khawin. Not bad for a budak bandar like us huh? :P Anyway, im not feeq *whistles. :P

Stay tune for other fun activities we did in the Kampung !

GLUTTON JAMIE DAY!

June 4th, 2010, posted in Events, Food, Random rants, Shennanigans, ©FoodStuff

WOW! Omgod its been long since I’ve updated my post. Tsk tsk, this is a sign of me being REAL busy. I mean how often you see i DONT update my blog or NEGLECT it? NONE! =p

Ok, so like I’ve said, my mission to bring the lifeless Jamie down is to EAT! and make her FAT! After the Freedom event, we bunked and the next morning, i began my mission to glutton her. Here’s what we ate for breakfast. =)

IMG_1799

Yup! We had hakka food somewhere near Mutiara Hotel. Its down the road towards the traffic light. Go straight and you’ll see that Hakka restaurant on your right. The Yam Abacus is very delicious. I’ve tried this dish a few times in KL but this was the best so far. Not to say that it gives you the ‘boom boom paw’ feeling but at least it brightens up the gloomy morning. (It’s raining). Don’t believe? See below >>

IMG_1802

Look at her orgasmic face. That’s her when you shove her with food. GOOD FOOD to be exact. To bad the BG is overexposed. You’ll see its raining rather heavy that morning.

IMG_1794

The Yong tau fu was nice. But nah, ill skip it. The soup that comes with it is awesome. Ok la, i know… they shove us with tons and tons of MSG right? No wonder im bald right… :X

Haha, i know its crazy, but after this meal, we straight race down to Muar to have our fix of Johor’s authentic otak-otak. With the help of some food bloggers who have included the coordinate in their blog post, and with the help of Google Map Navigator.. I present to you… >>

IMG_1804

IMG_1811

Seriously, if you are an otak otak lover, this shop is da bomb. I know of places that claimed to serve the best otak otak around but nothing beats the original from Glutton Street. Despite all that, my grandma STILL makes the BEST otak otak hands down period! If you wanna try, make an appointment. LOL

This otak otak is fresh and well, it doesn’t have that fishy smell that turns me off! You see, i hate eating fish, but otak otak is an exception and this shop makes it to perfection.

IMG_1807

Pork Satay. Sadly, because of this satay, Kajang no long is THE BEST. Once you try this, you’ll beg for more. No i am not saying the satay sold by this particular shop in Muar, I was refering to the satay shop in Taman Bachang, Melaka!

The secret ingredient to what makes the best pork satay is of course the uniqueness of the gravy or some shall call it Kuah Kacang. Some stalls just use the normal kuah and some adds a lil hint of pineapple in it. Well for this shop is Muar, the pineapple is not blend in the kuah itself, but was served together with the cucumber. Like this >> IMG_1810

The satay in Bachang blend’s the kuah with the pineapple and ITS THE BOMB!. But that is for next post. In this post, this satay was alright. Its nice but does not beat MINE! =p

I was full but Jamie ( as usual ) INSISTED to get the hor jian. Seriously… my expression > :) to =.=’

IMG_1814

If you were to try any hor jian from any shop around KL, most of it serves you with a tiny bit of hor jian. What’s worse, the hor jian is so small that by the time you eat half, you are only eating the egg.

But this shop has the biggest hor jian ive ever seen. LOL. Its so big that for every piece of egg served, there are at least 4-5 juicy hor jian. That’s how awesome Muar hor jian is. <3

IMG_1812

IMG_1821

Me, in Glutton Street. LOL

GUESS WHAT?! haha YES after all this fattening but delicious delicacy of Muar, I THEN RACE DOWN to MELAKA for the FOOODDDZZZZ.

I was suppose to bring Jamie to a cendol stall just outside Jonker Street but sadly, its close. And the reclamation of land just outside Jonker is AN EYE SORE. F.U Melaka Gov.

IMG_1832

So i brought her to the next best thing, but its packed. Seriously, this particular Asam Laksa and ABC stall is overrated. Not to say its not nice, but well its just overrated. Its nice but other shop that serves cendol within 1km radius of Jonker Street taste as good as this. So why the overcrowding of this place? tsk tsk. Only Melaka people know the best cendol around. =p

IMG_1853

Durian Cendol

IMG_1851

Durian ABC

I HATE DURIAN. period. But i was forced to indulge the most hated food of all time. ARGH. Ok fine, the cendol and ABC is nice. But not the durian. LOL

IMG_1859

Look at that happy face lah… tsk tsk. I hate durian okay!

IMG_1880

Ok then we had Laksa just across the street. FULL. Orgasmic.

IMG_1881

Ze stall.

Durian cream puff Jamie claim to be delicious. Ill never try in a million years. Nuff said. LOL

OK SERIOUSLY I NEED ANOTHER FOOD CRAWL! WHO WANNA COME? Just LOOK at the delicious food above. How can you EVER RESIST it? hehe. =p Lets go crawl for food and make ourselves FAT! YAY FAT FTW! and JOIN BIGGEST LOSER ASIA!

out.

House of Buffet tasting session!

January 9th, 2010, posted in Events, Food, Random rants, Shennanigans

Thanks to Ah Pop of http://smashpop.com, we bloggers get the opportunity to try some of the finest dishes in town. Buffet Style babeh! House of Buffet (HOB).

Its just next to Lowyat plaza, making it really convenient for patrons/shoppers to have their bite at anytime of the day. IMG_3871

Being the new kid on the block, we bloggers are expecting something really scrumptious and awesome while having out teeth sunk into the so called ‘fine dishes’. But before we get into that, lets look at the interior.

IMG_3859

The interior spots a really upper class environment for customers and a very cozy setting. When you step into this place, you could down right feel like its a fine dining restaurant, which in fact is not. What makes this place stands out is the decos and the design itself. Along the walkway and tableside, there’s a mini lake. It looks really elegant and it gives you the ‘upper class’ feeling. LOL

If I’m not mistake, this place has 5 sections; Japanese, Malay, Chinese Fusion, Salad Bar, Ice Cream Bar, Cake counter and Drink Counter tho the Tempayaki section is not open yet.

IMG_3689

IMG_3694

The raw section of the Japanese Buffet.

IMG_3706

Nope. Not Good. Honestly, the sushi wasnt that fresh. Dont know why, but it seemed dryyyyy…. The raw section was good tho. The Salmon and the Ham is really tasty.

IMG_3711

The tempura and bilis was awesome. I love the bilis especially. Anchovies in English. LOL

IMG_3713

They served this to us. Coconut drink!!! Really cooling and refreshing. Especially when you know the air cond is not working at their place. =p

IMG_3715

I don’t eat muscles, but this muscles is not your ordinary muscles. It is cooked with cheese and man, i can eat this thang all night long. It has this fried feeling and the cheese just eliminates the smell away. Really awesome stuff.

IMG_3720

I dont know what is this, but the gravy has this sweet taste and it gives the chicken a lip smacking points from me. This chicken is ordinary but the gravy is its M15. Love this.

IMG_3733

Salad Bar

IMG_3728

Now here comes their signature dish, specially prepared by the chef for us.

IMG_3779

IMG_3811

IMG_3849

I particularly love this dish. According to the chef, this is a Mexican influenced dish. The roll taste just like spring roll with a hint of some Mexican herds. Its exactly like the spring roll/popiah my grandma always make during festive season. Of course this is just my bias taste buds as i love popiah very much. =)

IMG_3827

HOB also serves Baskin 31 Robin ice cream and that’s the part we bloggers are looking forward to. Nevertheless, sorry to say, the cakes are not worth mentioning, so i wont post it up. =)

Overall, there’s room from improvement for this newly opened buffet style restaurant. It doesn’t has the wow factor but at the same time its not that bad. The dishes that i mentioned are worth your taste buds. Although the Japanese food section failed me, but at least the hospitality we received compensate for it. There are rooms for improvement and i wish you guys luck. Then again, thanks to SmashPop a.k.a Jason Goh and HOB for hosting us bloggers. It was an awesome night. We went home a happy man. LOL. Full and happy! weee. =)
