Vin’s Restaurant TTDI Food Review

August 7th, 2011, posted in Advertorials, Food, Random rants, Review, Shennanigans

Its been a while since I was invited to a food review session. I was being cordially invited to Vins, TTDI to sample their fine dishes.

Once seated, I was pleasantly greeted and served with a glass of water. The waiters were rather friendly and helpful and their first impression just gave it away.

The chef greeted us and suggested a few dishes for us to have as a starters. IMG_6047

We started of with Smoked Salmon Bruschetta – (RM21) – Served with caper-flavored pesto.

As a smoked salmon fan, I can say that its was prepared to perfection. Its what I expect from a salmon bruschetta. 2 thumbs up for this.

We then had Sautéed Mushrooms – (RM16.90) – Sautéed button and king oyster mushrooms flavored with herbs on crusty bread topped with parmesan.

I also love mushroom so I might be biased here. But heck, its awesome. (:

Here are the pictures of the Starters served.

Crumbed Scallops – RM18.90
Pan fried breaded scallops dips with mayo.

Brandy Prawn – RM18.50
Sauteed fresh shrimp served on crusty bread and tossed with Spanish dressing and brandy sauce. Tasted good!

The scallop which is the last picture taste quite ok, bud wise but the brandy prawn feels fresh although you might find a little wee bit hard to find the brandy taste in it. Smile with tongue out

Next they served us

Vin’s Chicken Nachos – RM26.90
Very appetizing as it was served with shredded chicken topped with crisp nachos, salsa and cheese.

It tasted alright. Not what I expect from nachos, plus I don’t usually see people serve nachos like this. But taste wise, its edible. (:

Last starters we had. I know I know, these starters made us full even before the main dishes arrived!

Spicy Lamb Masala – RM18.90
An authentic Indian favorite , slow-cooked in an earthen pot and served with crusty bread.

I love lamb. And lamb curry. So this is to die for. I am bit biased here course I can eat spicy food and lamb is my favorite. But trust me, it really taste that good.

Now for the main dish. Right, I was full by then. But I forced myself to eat. After all, what are food tasting if you are not gonna try everything right?

Salmon Cream – RM28.90
Juicy grilled salmon cooked in a basil cream served on pasta.

I love the fuse of salmon + spaghetti in it. The cream sauce just add more flavor to it.

Spicy Lamb Bolognaise – RM26.90
It’s a fusion lamb dish made in a spicy bolognaise sause and flavored with fresh herbs and wild mushrooms.

Now this is odd right? Lamb bolognaise. I didn’t get to try this but as said by Jason Ong, it’s a must try. I am a fan of lamb but have never had a bolognaise made out of lamb. LOL

VIN’s Rack of lamb – RM54
Imported freched juicy tender lamb served with fresh sauteed potatoes and a garden salad. Simple melts in your mouth.

Damn, this imported lamb really is tender and juicy. Has no after taste, no smell or whatsoever. Just pure perfection. Was well done just as I like it.

The Black Angus - RM54
Air flown U.S grain fed ribeye steak grilled to your choice of doneness, served with potato salad, accompanied by salad and rich think gravy.

They say it’s the highlight dish of the night. I think it’s the best dish in the house. The steak in done medium rare. Despite that, it does not have the after taste I always experience with medium rare steak. Maybe I am the odd one. But heck, I hate the blood taste that usually present in medium rare steak. So I guess Ill give 10 thumbs up for this!

This is how the steak looks like. It doesn’t really look appetizing here, but trust me, it is. I am very picky of my steak, and this one won me over. (:

Overall, Vins has most of their food right although certain ones defintely needs improvement. Nevertheless, the waiters are really friendly and helpful, which is a plus point as it just make you fell good. The environment could be described as romantically cosy but at the same time makes you feel like home. Nothing really fancy on their deco, but its quite ok to bring your date for a dine.

Food : 7.5/10

Service : 9/10

Environment : 7/10

Overall : 8/10

Then we headed for some so called ‘retail therapy’ (shopping) lol, and head back for some makan and yes, we then were treated with a 20min GO KART RIDE courtesy of Sunway Extreme Park!

Heh! Look….. >>>>

Anyway it was a fun ride but not thrilling enough as the Go-Kart is not fast. Its more like a chill ride but for those seeking for adrenaline rush, look elsewhere Smile with tongue out

The Kenduri Khawin.

June 28th, 2010, posted in Random rants, Shennanigans, Travel

Two post back, as you guys know, were on the brief introduction on Kampung Parit Penghulu, the homestay kampung that I lived in while i was in Melaka.

The first thing we did when we were united with our foster parents, Pak Cik Lokman and his wife is to attend KENDURI KHAWIN! (: I can haz rendangs!!!! :P

We were one of those lucky bunch who gets to attend kenduri. Other people were not so lucky because their foster parents do not have a car to bring them around.

IMG_2326

These are the foods served there. Rendang ayam, Kurma and Buah Nangka! All of it are ograsmic.

Ok here’s the epic #phail part. Feeq a.k.a Meaningfool a.k.a Feeqsays ask me :

WHERES THE RECEPTION COUNTER? DO WE NEED TO REGISTER?

Haha. Seriously, Pak Man and his wife and me LOL’ed at Feeq for not knowing how Kenduri Khawin is held. :P From that moment, i jokingly called Feeq Melayu Murtad :P But honestly, you cant blame him cuz he is from *coughs* Singapore.

IMG_2335

Basically anyone from anywhere can just walk in, sit down eat and have fun without the need of worrying whether to register or not. You dont even need to give ang pow or anything. All you have to do is fill the place up and eat away. Now that’s the true spirit of the Kampung people.

Not only that, foods in Kenduri Khawin in Kampungs were never catered instead were cooked in a gotong-royong sesion with family members, friends and neighbors.

IMG_2338 IMG_2339 IMG_2344 IMG_2343

Like any other Malay wedding, there a silat performances but with different variation! This Silat is done by a silat sifu.

IMG_2346

How the place looks like!

Then we headed back to home where ANOTHER kenduri khawin was held. But this time, its Pak Cik Lokman’s neighbor. It’s a lil different but the food rocks at the end of the day :P

IMG_2347

IMG_2348

IMG_2356

Yup, this is the different variation of the silat. Somehow they use kids as their performers and theres one guy’s hairstyle beats JONYKT’s one kau kau :P

IMG_2357 IMG_2358

IMG_2361

Ok here’s where they bersanding. (:

Yup, so this part is where we enjoyed ourself and feasted ourselves with Kenduri Khawin done on Malays Customs. We learned alot on the traditional food, ways and performances during a Kenduri Khawin. Not bad for a budak bandar like us huh? :P Anyway, im not feeq *whistles. :P

Stay tune for other fun activities we did in the Kampung !
