As you guys know ( or you can view the post below) i was invited by Dusty to AMBP’s screening of Star Trek. I am not a Sci-Fi fan nor a geek ( that’s what they call em’ ok) and i actually thought of giving it a miss. Well, i thought it was boring, considering that the series are as boring as hell. But at last i decided to come since my mates are all coming.
But heck this screening is a PREMIER SCREENING OF STAR TREK!
So yeah, I am like one of the first to ever set my eyes on it. Star Trek fan must be really jealous now as a non ST fan can watch it earlier than them. xD
Star Trek Review from a Non-Fan.
Note:
I’ve never watched any episode of Star Trek the Series except
some few occasional scene which then i quickly switch channel cuz it suck ass. So i will write a review based on a non-ST fan point of view. You guys are gonna hate me @ first and love me in the end.
Sorry if i offend ST fans but that is the truth. =) peace.
*watch the trailer*
I would first start by saying before entering the cinema hall, i don’t put any expectation on this. I just thought, damn this is going to be boring as all the non-ST fan would know.
When the movie actually started, i was greeted with U.S.S Kelvin being attacked by some Romulan alien ship. The Romulan ship seems to be more powerful than the Federation ship.( isn’t a Federation ship suppose to be meaner? xD) and bla bla bla. George Kirk was then appointed as the captain and he actually sacrifices himself by colliding with the alien ship to allow other crew member and his wife and his unborn child James T. Kirk to escape.
That first scene itself manage to make me glued to my seat. Man, i thought to myself, this is not as bad as i thought. Star Trek the movie is totally different from the series. The movie is so action packed, the details of the outer space world are well designed especially the FX (special effect) part and it got me totally engross to the movie. The FX was awesome and they made it as what I shall call OUT-OF THIS-WORLD!
I actually thought that Star Trek will feature a lot of Alien people which is a total turn off to me but most of the character are as close to human, if not human. Except from their opponent which is an Alien (Romulan) , the rest of them looks like a human. Vulcan looks a lil like human except for their long pointed ears. But the rest was really awesome.
If you guys expected this movie to be like Star Wars and other shitty movies, no this movie is not even close to their league. This movie is something like Armageddon + Fast and Furious with a little touch of some romance and humorous scene.
NOW THIS PART AMAZE ME! Humorous scene.
You see, i really thought that Star Trek is like Star Wars. Boring and serious shitty talking movie. But Star Trek prove me wrong. It has a few humorous scene which is a welcome sign when things get dull. I actually enjoyed this part so much that I really am enjoying the movie. The humorous scene came at the right time and its amazing how the director manage to slip in a lil funny scene in a supposedly-serious-shooting-outer space-movie!
Speaking of humorous scene. Lets take a look at the cast ( I will only look on the main cast and notable cast) :
Can you imagine Sylar in Hereos becoming a Vulcan – Spock (Zachary Quinto) is his name. And his character is well portrayed in this movie. Considering he acted as the heartless Sylar in Heroes, he manage to act as a feeling-less Vulcan in this movie too. FYI Spock is not a full Vulcan. He is half human, half Vulcan. His mother is a human. Talk about crossbreed between alien and human. xDDDDDD Overall this Sylar cum Spock acted quite decent in this movie.

Chris Pine acted as James T. Kirk. The son of George Kirk. James Kirk is a rebellious child but after he joined the Starfleet he became an ambitious guy that want to be like his father. The Captain. James Kirk acted a few hilarious scene which makes the whole theater roar into laughter. He was sarcastic in a way to Spock and annoys Spock to the max which again made people laugh their ass off! I really like how he brought his character and the role he was given. Totally suit him and makes the movie more interesting. And for the ladies, HE IS HOT OKAY! xD
*James T. Kirk a.k.a Chris Pine. ( Cute?)*

Anton Yelchin acted as Chekov one of the ships officer. He has a slang like the Russian which makes him hard to communicate with the other especially THE COMPUTER. The computer could not understand his slang as he has a Russian accent. xD And every time he speaks, people roar into laughter. A sleek installment from J.J Abraham to make the movie more interesting for non-ST fans like me. Thumbs up!
John Cho from Harold and Kumar was also featured in this film. He has not much humorous scene but nonetheless the scene is really funny. You should check it out to watch it!.
*This scene is funny. Note John Cho a.k.a Sulu is at the back!*

Conclusion – This movie rock ass. I’m serious and this goes out to all NON-STAR TREK FAN LIKE ME! I am not going to ask you to be a ST fan after watching this, but this movie is worth watching. I don’t care if you are not a Sci-Fi film fan or what, the problem is this is not a typical Sci-Fi film. Its combination of all genre. I really love this film to the max. J.J Abraham manage to make this movie like a total reboot of the series. Nothing that a non-ST fan like me would not understand. There is nothing in the movie that is a continuation of the series. It is like a brand new series. And if you guys still don’t understand the story after watching it, I have three word for you. YOU ARE STUPID!
I am serious. There is a woman 3 seats away, she keep asking her BF why does this happen and why does that happen. FFS the movie is not a ripped off from ST the series. Its a new reboot and if you concentrate you will understand what is going on. The plot has no twist and etc. It is a straight forward plot. Its something like – I shoot you, you shoot me. You almost kill me, i get up and i kill you. In between i will kiss my baby! – That simple.
Star Trek the movie deserve a high credit. J.J Abraham once again did a good job in making a movie that is not too engrossed into the original series and made it easy for us NON-ST fan to actually enjoy it too.
I give this movie :
PLOT : 7.5/10
CAST : 9/10
FX : 8/10
OVERALL: 8.5/10
