“ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE , Kamu Jangan Nakal…” This is part of the verse of his latest single, Jangan Nakal that got me thinking, hmm.. not a bad album. I was expecting more and here’s what i thought.
Alif Satar is a product of 8tv’ reality TV series, One in a Million that was once popular among Malaysians. He was the same batch as Suki, winner of OIAM and Faizal Tahir, runner-up. Appearing in style in the local music industry, Alif proved to be favorites among young fans especially the girls. After getting eliminated from OAIM, Alif is active in the movie line but recently released his second album, Jangan Nakal under the music label, SONY MUSIC.
A young esthetic 18 years old guy, his voice and talent maybe the selling point of his album especially for the Malay market. He proved himself with songs like Cinta Tergadai and Lagi Lagi Cinta which got me to sing along. To be honest, his songs in the album is not my cup of tea. When i first listened to the album, it does not appeal to me and i thought i was an ok album. It took me a few listens to actually figure out tracks that maybe worth listening. Thankfully for Alif, i manage to dig out a few songs that is worth listening.
Cinta Tergadai is the strongest track of this album, demonstrating his maturity in his vocal as a young budding singer compared to when he first started in OAIM. Cinta Indah is a simple layback tune that will do enough good for those who are looking for a catchy tune an Lagi Lagi Cinta is even more ‘nakal’ than his single ‘Jangan Nakal’. I honestly think that Lagi Lagi Cinta should be the single instead of Jangan Nakal as that hit has a hint of his vocals and catchy tune all packed in one song. While Jangan Nakal is well received by his fans, that song does not have the package to be his main selling point.
In a nutshell, Alif has done his very best in producing this album, but it may not be enough to impress me. No doubt there are tunes that are worth mentioning like the ones above, but the rest of it falls short of glory. This album like I’ve said is not my cup of tea although a few songs are quite nice. It may appeal to others out there for such that they enjoy his ‘sexy’ voice as claim by some of his screaming teenage fans. I hope in his next album, he will lean more towards power packed vocal songs instead of just layback tunes. Overall, it is a good album considering he is still young. I’m expecting more improvement in his next studio album!
