Sa Ding Ding live in Malaysia

May 2nd, 2010, posted in Events, Music, Uncategorized

Her mesmerizing performance just go my eyes glued to the stage. Her extremely devilish dance move that sometimes spooks you to her demure butterfly-like moves and who can ever forget the passion and enthusiasm she displayed while humming to her self created language.

The BBC World Music Artist 2008, Sa Ding Ding definitely got most of the audience jam packing DragonFly Club (Formally orange) screaming like a bewildered Teen!

Everyone from all walks of life came together in one venue to watch her bring the house down. This Han-Mongolian descendent sing in many different language including Mandarin, Tibetan, Sanskrit, Lagu; her own unique self creating language.

She marked her appearance with Xi Ran Ning Po, which consist of self created language. This first song really awed me as it was so rock-ish at the same time having this mantra feel that calms people down. The song feels really familiar yet weird but almost perfect to be called a song.

This showcase is part of her promotional tour of her latest album, Harmony which debut in last January.

There are many other mind blowing tunes she hit that night that got the mostly-PRC crowd singing along. Too bad she speaks mandarin most of the time so i just don’t know what is she speaking. LOL. But one thing for sure Sa Ding Ding really did have her place in everyone’s heart as after she end her last song, the crowd demand an Encore.

The emcee spoke in Mandarin, “If all of you are silent, she might just come back up and do an encore”. Within few seconds, the club was filled with silence and Sa Ding Ding emerge from back of the stage followed by a roaring thunderous applause from the audience.

That itself is enough to describe how powerful and entertaining her performance is that got the crowd to demand for more. For her encore, she sang Alive and Hua.

Hua really got me into the music because it is a rap-rock number ala Linkin Park/Pop Shuvit. She was rapping her way through with drums and bass guitar accompanying it and end the song like a rock star.

Sa Ding Ding is definitely a gem. A unique singer in her own style. She manage to hit the spot and even got Paul Oakenfold to remix her song. She maybe from China, but she is a superstar. She rock Sydney Opera House, Royal London Albert Hall and most importantly BBC even acknowledge her. Its her first time performing here and based on that she need to come back for an super encore!

Although folk genre is not my cup of tea, but Sa Ding Ding is considerably good in my track record. Her songs might not suite my taste but that night, it got me humming along. It is that good.

She deserve a bigger venue next time around. GET HER ONE ORGANIZER!!

Ice Kacang Puppy Love

I’ve always say to my readers that Malaysian Movie rocks! And this movie is no different. Everyone who walked out of the cinema, would have a smile on their face.

 frame3[1]

Ok, first up.. this show is in Mandarin. But of course it will have English and Malay subtitle so don’t come telling me.. “Eh Nigel, i thought you dunno Mandarin” =.= And who’s the director? Its none other than our very own talented Aniu!

Well, i just got to know that this movie revolves around Aniu’s childhood experience. It was set in the mid-80’s in a small town in Penang.

pic8a[1]

This heartwarming story speaks on Aniu’s childhood live where it’s all about romance, love, friendship and of course the simple layback life of a Kampung lifestyle.

pic17a[1]

The lifestyle was demonstrated through the use of fighting fish, kampung gossips ( When one person knows, the whole kampung knows within split second), the use of bicycle, the backdrop of buildings/houses made of wood and etc.

pic13a[1]

The use of marbles even enhanced and relish the memorable childhood experience we all used to have. It certainly brought our sweet memories to live and got us to relate his story to ours.

pic16a[1]

Not only that, this show demonstrates to us how LOVE , the POWER of LOVE rules above everything. From a notorious annoying ‘brother’ of the town, he finally became ‘soft’ all because he fell in love with that girl.

pic10a[1]

Not much more i can say or it will be spoilers for you guys. Certainly this movie is a must watch for those of you who thinks local movie sucks. Honestly, what difference does a Hollywood director, HK Director, Jack Neo and etc with a Malaysian Director? All of them are humans.. the only thing that separates them is creativity.. And Aniu has it all.

Seriously, get to your local cinema fast to have your dose of laughter, tears and joy. ALL IN THIS MOVIE ALONE. You wouldn’t regret a single bit and i bet you will be like the rest of the movie-goers, coming out of the cinema hall with a big wide smile.

You rock Aniu. =)

I rate this movie 9/10
