Experienced the fun of Kampung! Part 1 – Brief History!

June 21st, 2010, posted in Events, Food, Random rants, Shennanigans, Travel

Guys, even wondered how a kampung lifestyle is? What is their daily routine? What do they do for a living? Where do they live? (On top of the tree? lol) What do they eat? Or even, what do they do for entertainment?

Well I’ve been wondering this all my life and thanks to Mo Ad Media, NewsZapped and of course Tourism Malaysia, my questions on the kampung lifestyle are answered. Mo Ad Media organized this homestay, while NewsZapped are responsible on handling us and Tourism Malaysia sponsored the whole 2 days 1 night trip! Thanks for everything! (;

Ok i am not here to tell you guys like what did i do from the time i left KL to the time i broad back a bus to KL ; filled with camwhore pics and little or zero explanation on the stuff that is displayed in my blog, but rather i’ll share with my readers, the easy going, unique, exquisite lifestyle of a typical Malay Kampung in Melaka with explanation for those who are curious!

Yup! This is where we blogger stayed. I forgot how many, but roughly 15 i guess. Oh wait, this is not where we stay, this is what the whole homestay is called! We live in the kampung people’s house (: As the place name explains, Argo tourism. Bet you can expect what is coming up next!

  IMG_2305

Ze bloggers looking a lil lost. They say “Rusa Masuk Kampung:P We were greeted with greenery, left and right. Then the kompang welcomed us! (: It feels really like high school where the students ALWAYS plays the kompang for ANY occasion!

Ini dia, En. Suparman Bin Abu. He’s the president of Kem Model Insan homestay. He was the one in charge of dividing us among our foster parents and he did talk about the village, the aim of the homestay and what service they provide.

So well, basically Kampung Parit Penghulu is a Kampung in Sungai Rambai in the District of Jasin. Its like any other ordinary kampung with Paddy Field but in 2006 it was transformed into a homestay under the initiative of Tourism Malaysia. Besides homestay, they also provide all those team building camps with games and etc and cater to the customers request. Cool huh!

Apart from that, this kampung is like directly on the border of Melaka – Johor. You can literally step to Melaka and Johor in like say 5min? Daymn thats near! (:

Here’s a video of a typical kampung house in Melaka shot by Rebecca’s HTC DESIRE! WOOT ANDROID FTW! :P

En. Suparman call this kampung a “SPECIAL” kampung. Why? Because this is one of the only KAMPUNGS with HSDPA connection by DIGI! Seriously, i litterally get full 5 bars everywhere i go and there’s wifi connection at the Balai Raya and some homes. Im lucky my foster parents have Streamyx in the box! :P

Lemme show you the twitpic i did! haha

SEE?! haha. Also everyone in this kampung is tech savvy ok! Dont judge the book by its cover. They know what is blogger and what blogger does! They too have DSLR with NISSIN AND METZ FLASH MOUNTED! And also, they have FACEBOOK! Seriously you’ll be surprised! But honestly, i think its because of the exposure they get after their kampung is transformed into a homestay. I believe they are catching up with the people in the city!

so stay tune for the next post on what we did and experienced in the kampung.

till then, adios!

Well yeah, Simonso of BlupBlup invited us bloggers to have a taste of the first soup kiosk in Malaysia. Located in the heart of the city, Plaza LowYat, you’ll never get soup-deprived ever again. =p

Well espresSOUP does not only serve soup (duh) but also salads, various croissant and pastas! Best part of all, the drinks… i don’t know what’s it called, but its awesome!

IMG_2107

This is the exact same bread used to fill the soup in it. Well, yea that’s how it is served. The soup is poured on this bread. Its called the farmer bread, made up of wheat and rice flour.

IMG_2112

I ordered the err i forgot what it is, but its contains clamp. Oh whatever la, as long as i know its FREAKING AWESOME!

So how do you eat it? Here’s how!

IMG_2115

GOD was so angry at man kind for all the sins they have committed. And so he wants to wipe out mankind… God sent the great flood… and Here’s how it looks like….>>>IMG_2116

BE HOLD THE GREAT FLOOD HAS COME! WHERES MY ARK?!!!!!!

Wilson say BOCOR! (hahha you know i know la)

Actually you cut the bread into pieces and flood it with the soup. That’s how you eat it. Please don’t just drink the soup, leaving the bread all alone =( Its edible ok! lol

IMG_2109

The croissant . Nice.

Anyway, i really do think this thing is worth your penny. I am a big eater, hell yeah! (NOPE I DONT WANNA HEAR! YOU GUYS DONT SAY ANYTHING! SHHH!!!! ) But the soup and the bread itself is enough to fill my stomach! I don’t need no pasta or side orders to get me pumped up. All i need was just the soup and that filling bread. Seriously. And guess what? Its only Rm7.90 <3 it.

Ok la, as usual, camwhore pictures right.. tsk tsk…

Almost every blogger in this pic. ALMOST. Lol

Boss of EspresSOUP and the blupblup guys. And oh pls ignore that sicko. =p AHHAHAH

IMG_2126

EspresSOUP get two thumbs up for being that shop that offers alternative to our mums mushroom soup. While it may (or may not) taste better than our mums, at least it is comparable to the ‘premium’ soup usually served in up market places.

Verdict : 4/5 =)

And oh yeah, Thanks Simon and BlupBlup for this treat. It’s greet hanging out with familiar faces and meeting new upcoming FAMOUS bloggers. Bring us out more la SIMON! To Genting perhaps =p And oh yeah, what car you won la?

Kashmir Cafe Review

June 4th, 2010, posted in Food, Random rants, Shennanigans

I LOVE INDIAN FOOD! It doesn’t bother me whether its NORTH Indian or SOUTH. What’s most important is this 3 : CURRY, SPICES and MUTTON! And yes, if possible make the curry as SPICY as possible. I am dying for that!

Isn’t it obvious what i am gonna blog about now? =p Well, Marc_ky invited us bloggers to a food tasting session in Kashmir Cafe SS3. As soon as he mention about it being Indian food, i couldn’t resist and immediately jump into the bandwagon. Told you i love Indian food. haha.

Kashmir Cafes is well known to be serving delicious Indian food since 1979.The shop close down a few years back as there is some problem with its management/family. After a few years, the family members then revived it to continue its legacy of serving people of SS3 and its surrounding area with what i shall call GIF. Good Indian food. lol

OK LA, i know you guys wanna look at the food.. So here it comes for their specialty.

The BRIYANI!

Chicken Briyani

Mutton Briyani

Kashmir serves 3 different types or briyani ; Mutton (Rm12), Chicken (RM10) and Veg (RM8). I personally feel that the mutton briyani is the bomb. Ok la, you cant really take my words for it as i have a fetish for mutton. But then again, i can guarantee you that this mutton is different from other briyani mutton out there. I don’t know about others but when i munch the mutton, certain part of it felt crispy and that itself got me addicted to it. You must try it to really know how it taste like!

According to Sashi (the owner) all the briyani rice is cooked together and then cooked again with mutton or chicken to prevent the oil from the meat from mixing with the rice.

IMG_1918

Another thing worth mentioning here, everything here is served with banana leaf. NO PLATES. Nothing! Awesome right? And the side dishes of the briyani (look at the picture), ITS DA BOMB ALSO! The pickle veg is really nice. Too bad most bloggers there doesn’t know how to savor the best. WASTED =p To really enjoy Indian food, mutton, spices, pickled veg (acar) and etc is A MUST TRY!

This,my friend is not DA BOMB, but its NUCLEAR BOMB! This is mutton bone curry! Right, MUTTON BONE CURRY! Its uber delicious, spicy and blend to perfection. Bone marrows, mutton and potato all mashed up in this one perfect curry = SATISFACTION. Too bad its only available from Fri to Sun. So better head there to try this curry. You really wont regret.

IMG_1926

Fiery Crab Rasam. (Rm1.60) This rasam taste bad and good at the same time. Maybe cuz im not used to it. It smells umm.. horrible (probably due to the spices) but at the same time it taste so good that you’ll keep drinking it despite the smell. It has this fiery peppery tatse and a hint of crab in it. Nice! =)

This thosai made my day. It feels so good that i sang Tonights gonna be a good good night! This dish is called the Kashmir Special Masala Thosai and served in two choices :

Kashmir Special Chicken Masala Thosai/Rava Thosai
Kashmir Special Mutton Masala Thosai/Rava Thosai

Rm5.90

by harinder

This seriously is the highlight of the day. Its not da bomb or da nuclear bomb but its the end of the world. I took a bite and immediately i was in cloud 9. I’m not exaggerating but it is that good. You can view other blogger’s opinion about it if you want, you’ll get the same answer. Thanks to Marc_ky for recommending this dish, now you are making me go crazy. T.T

I even ta pau 2 piece of this scrumptilicious thosai and savor it at home. The secret lies in the masala itself. The masala is really nice. And of course the thosai too. Most thosai ive tried is very sour but Kashmir’s is not. According to Sashi, sour thosai indicates that it has been kept overnight. But for Kashmir’s, the thosai are always fresh! Left over thosai wont be re-used again and served to the customer. THUMBS UP! They served the best thosai ever~!

IMG_1931

Spicy Masala Tea. Nothing to rave about but its as good as the original. Its best to cool down yourself after an afternoon of superb spicy indian dishes.

IMG_1938

Kesari and Wajik for the desert! Its perfect. Not that sweet but not tasteless either. Better than some of other shop that serves this.

Sashie’s sister previously was in the same team as when coffee bean first came to Malaysia. So in her blood, she has this cleanliness comes first concept and Sashie explains that her sister always stressed that in her kitchen and wants only the BEST food stock.

So rest assured that Kashmir serves the best and has a very conducive and clean environment.

Sashie’s sis even bake us this cute cake as a token of appreciation. NICE <3

After all the talking, what i wanna say is…. Kashmir is my new favourite new Indian Foodjoint after Indian’s Kirchen. Seriously good especially if you are a lover of GIF! Good Indian Food =p.
