#Maxis10 HTC HD7 “HIDDEN FEATURES”

December 9th, 2010, posted in Computer, Phone review, Random rants, Review, Shennanigans

Windows Phone 7 that is preloaded on HTC HD7 is one heck of an OS. The features that were included were never seen on any other phone. OF course there are tons of them but for today, i am just going to talk about the 4 unique features that were implemented. These features amazes me because it is something useful yet Microsoft is able to pull it.

WINDOWS LIVE DEVICE – FIND MY PHONE

Security has been always an issue with it comes to handphones. Handphones nowdays are more than just a tool to call or sms. With Smartphones becoming the talk of the town, many people are using it as an alternative to their PC or Laptop and stores sensitive data in it. What Microsoft has done is to address this concern and came out with what they call “Find My Phone” feature that is intergrated with their online portal, Windows Live.

I know there are a lot of other 3rd party program that tracks your phone on GPS, WP7 is different . Wanna know why?image

Yup! There is just more than viewing your location! You will have the ability to ring the phone, lock the phone or even ERASE IT.

MAP IT – FIND YOUR PHONE

image

When you click on the Map IT, it will use your WIFI/3G signal to locate you and mark your location based on the GPS. The phone will periodically save your location so that if there is no internet connection OR GPS signal, they will display the last location that your phone was seen. Ok, now you guys know where is my workplace already…… TAIPAN! (:

RING IT – RING YOUR PHONE

image

This ring it feature is a feature to ring your phone to locate it. It will ring your phone with a special ring tone even if your phone is on silent or vibrate. Of course when its off, you cannot ring the phone. Its an awesome feature to locate your phone if you misplace it! Woots… you can also preview your special ringtone so that you’ll know how does it sound like.

LOCK IT – LOCK AND WARN!

 27f6ec2c4a699c698f4742aa8aaa75bf

Lock it feature allows you to lock your phone with your own pre-defined security code and send a “Please Return” message. Of course the message is also customizable. Its an awesome feature. You can warn him of your knowledge on his location and threaten to call the police!!!! It rings too you know. Imagine annoy the heck out of him till he gives back the phone! :P

image

Here’s the set up screen to lock the phone! Cool right? (:

ERASE IT – DELETE EM’ ALL

image

The erase it feature will reformat your phone to prevent unauthorized use of sensitive data if you misplace your phone. It will completely wipe the phone and do a factory reset of the phone so be rest assured your sensitive data will not go to the wrong hands (:

WIRELESS SYNC

Apart from the Windows Live Device, Zune player and WP7 allows synching over WIFI! Thats right, unlike some fruit phone that implements the same concept of having a software on desktop to sync songs and videos to the phone, WP7 can do it wirelessly over WIFI.

image

One just have to dock the phone at the dock station or charge the phone and after 10 minutes it will be sync automatically!

Hassel free right? (:

image

Just connect the phone and your computer to the same wireless network and follow the on screen step and viola! (:

Internet Sharing via Zune Player

Microsoft Actisync is a hell good feature. It allows WP7 to connect to your PC internet via your PC’s wifi/internet connection. All you have to do is to connect the phone to the laptop, fire up ZUNE PLAYER and you can surf the world wide web! Here’s an excerpt on the news i found :

One of the interesting capabilities of Windows Mobile and ActiveSync is that the device can access the Internet via USB and the desktop computer’s network connection. For the original Windows Mobile PDAs that only had WiFi, this ActiveSync passthru provides a way to access the Internet when WiFi is not available. Developers even found a way to take advantage of this capability to remotely control Windows Mobile devices from PCs and display the Windows Mobile screen in a window on desktop computers.

I was surprised to learn today that this ActiveSync “passthru” capability is available with Windows Phone 7 and the Zune desktop software. To try it out, turn on airplane mode on your Windows Phone, connect it to a computer running the Zune desktop software, open Internet Explorer on the phone, and open a web site. I am hopeful that developers will find a way to take advantage of this passthru capability to provide remote display and remote control applications like those that were available for Windows Mobile.

——————————————————————————————————————–

These features are either not announced or not publicized but it is the feature that will surely have the non tecky and techy users alike to love Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. These features has not been seen on any other phone ( at least the ones i know) and is certainly something welcomed to the mobile smart phones scene. In the next review, i will be summing it up and concluding

WHICH PHONE WILL HAVE MY SIM CARD AT THE END OF THE DAY.

So stay tune to this spot for a final verdict on what’s hot and what’s not!

#Maxis10 HTC HD7 : Windows Phone 7 Hub

December 5th, 2010, posted in Computer, Phone review, Shennanigans, Sports

Hello once again guys! As you all already know, Microsoft introduction of what they would call hub on the Windows Phone 7. Well basically, the hub is like a specific segment/department in your phone that handles all that is intended for. For example, the office hub. In this hub, you get to access your one notes, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel from the SharePoint server or Microsoft web office. Every hub has an integration feature. Before we go into the hubs. Lets view the 4 main hubs that I’ve compiled in the video below :

I’ve only included these four hubs because i really think this hub are the killer features for HD7 and Windows Phone 7. People hub is basically an integration with Facebook account, contacts sync to cloud and etc and this is already on Android. But the 4 main features are unique and what i think would just kill it for Microsoft.

Entertainment Hub

Capture7 Capture8

Yup. In the entertainment hub spots the ol’ familiar interface of Microsoft Zune HD. And as expected, WP7’s Zune is completely synchronizable  to Microsoft owns flagship Zune Player. The main difference between this and the Itunes is that you can have full manual sync without needing to worry if ever the software will sync and reformat your phone. (Fruit product =.=)

IMG_8792

The Zune player in WP7 spots a black background with tons of animated effects. It sleek and simple. I <3 this interface to the max.

Not only music and video, if you happen to subscribe to podcast , it will also be integrated and sync to your phone. Another nifty feature of the Entertainment Hub is FM Radio that is missing in some other phones that have the same concept of synching music. (:

And for audiophiles, the SRS Enhancement included will blow your bass thumping headphones. I’ve tried and it certainly have enough juice to pump that sound out!.

IMG_8805

Game Hub

Another notable features that also need special attention is the Game Hub! In the game hub, Microsoft introduced a game zone dubbed the Xbox Live that is certified cross platform and also integrated with its PC and XBox 360 counterpart. So what does this really mean?

Simple! Imagine playing ShadowRun on Xbox 360, and your brother wants to take over, so you play on your comp but you realize you need to go somewhere, but you still wants to play and thats where you realize you can continue playing your games on 3 different platform, different controls, but the SAME GAME and its interchangeble. Scores are intergrated! COOL RIGHT?

Capture10

Of course at the moment, these cross platform games has not b een released yet and is now waiting for Microsoft green light! But when it really does happen, Microsoft will bring the gaming world to a whole new level. As for now, you can only chat with other gamers, update scores, earn points and etc. Lets just wait for Microsoft and see how this goes.

 IMG_8812

Wanna see what games are available? See my favorites below ! >

IMG_8865

See all the big titles? This itself beats other mobile gaming platform out there. There are even more games in the marketplace, so really, gamers should check this out. You’ll instantly fall in love with it. (:

Office Hub

Well, its Microsoft, what else you can expect? Their ‘infamous’ Microsoft Office is included in it as usual. But before you start to sigh and swear at this, let me tell you, Microsoft Office Mobile is SICK! With Microsoft’s own Web Office ( similar to Google Docs ), every document you have on the computer can be sync to the Web Office and then Sync to your phone. Lets say you’ve updated a document and save it, you dont have to upload or do anything because, its sync to your Web Office and also you desktop! Nifty feature aint it?

Capture Capture1

If your company do deploy a Sharepoint server, well as you can guess, its fully compatible and integrated! One more thing i would like to point out, IF you are a heavy Microsoft Office user and you need on the go at times, please by all means, get this Monster. Every document that is thrown at the phone can be opened without issues unlike 3rd party apps on Iphone and Android.

IMG_8847

HTC HUB

HTC HUB is the place to have all your nifty useful utilities app by HTC. A lot of useful apsp like notes, flash light, calculator and etc can be downloaded here to make WP7 more pleasurable to use. Not only that, you can also check the weather with some nice sound and  graphic effects!

IMG_8875 IMG_8881

People Hub

The people hub is like your integrated phonebook but with a twist. It integrates your Google, Windows Live and Facebook account into 1. If you have a friend with the same username on Google, Facebook and Windows Live it will automatically be merge into 1 with your phonebook contacts. Cool huh? But to be honest, i am not quite impressed with this because Android had first started this type of sleek sync. So it might seemed cool for Iphone ( oh wells, as usual) users, BUT for Android, you’ll feel like home!

IMG_8883  Capture6

On the left is the Facebook timeline and on the right is your Contacts. All your contacts in here will be sync to a cloud in Windows Live website. So you can rest assure that your contacts are always safe! Now, if only the could sync SMS too……

Picture Hub

When Android came up with their 3D photo viewer, i was impressed… NOT until Microsoft came up with their own version dubbed the Picture Hub! This picture hub is not just any picture viewer, it will display all your latest updated pictures on the fly to make your life easier! Not only that, picture hub will also display your latest picture as the background picture of the main screen of the viewer. Unnecessary feature but damn awesome eye candy indeed!

Capture3Capture4 Capture5

I forgot to mention, all your photos can also be sync to SkyDrive. A cloud server that stores your picture on the fly to be shared with your Windows Live Contacts! Its something similar to Facebook!

Search Hub

The search hub is what is called the power hub. And this power hub has a hardware button which i also called the Power Button. Why? The search button is so powerful you can search anything you want from any apps you are in! Lets say you are in the people hub and you want to look for a contact, just press the search button when you are in the hub and VIOLLA!. Another example if when you are searching for a SMS, MMS or even email. If you just need a normal general search on big just click the button at the home screen!

Capture9

Its really powerful and it certainly saves me lotsa precious time. I dont have to scroll through anything. It’s all searchable.

The introduction of Hub had brought a whole new level to the term : SmartPhone. Microsoft has been long criticized of their buggy and below par operating system but Windows Phone 7 have proved that Microsoft is on the right track to be on par or even better than the Market players. Of course there are certainly still many flaws but this is a new OS and a half baked one so lets just be patient and let Steve Ballmer justify himself. I heard there will be an update next month to address all the bugs and missing features issue. So lets just wait and see… as for now, I still love the phone and the OS although i still feel annoyed at times because of the lack of features.

#Maxis10 HTC HD7 “Killer Screen”

November 27th, 2010, posted in Computer, Phone review, Random rants, Shennanigans

Note: Unboxing video review will be post later today due to some technical error on my side. Thanks folks!

Update : Video is live! Check it out below. (:

Hey peeps! My sincere apology for taking such a long time to put up a post on the HTC HD7. I was really caught up with stuff and I was actually doing my first ‘documentary’ video on this phone. ( LOL ). Anyway, I am one of the 10 lucky selected #Maxis10 reviewer program on the this new sleek Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 powered Smartphone and I’ll be doing a full fledge review on this phone from a different perspective for the next 2 weeks.

IMG_8690

Before i move into the Phone itself and the OS, lets have a look at the outlook of it and the bundled package. The phone spots a 4.3 inch TFT display with a resolution of 800 X 400 which is hmm.. pretty good if you ask me.

Well, with a screen size that BIG, i bet your mama wont even need to get a TV for you. Besides, there’s even a kickstand to allow you to place it on a table and watch videos!!! (Read : Buy this for your child and not a TV)

IMG_8703

IMG_8702

Yup! Thats a kickstand for you. The kickstand is made of metal and really supports your phone weight so be rest assured that your phone is not gonna crack like the ‘fruit’ phone. :p

IMG_8708

If you’re gonna ask me how big is this 4.3inch screen.. well.. just look at the pic below.

IMG_8726

This gives you guys a rough idea on how a 4.3inch screen looks like. From the left is a 7 inch Galaxy Tab, followed by 4.3inch HD7 and my 4inch Galaxy S and 3.2inch Ipod Touch. As for HD7, the screen is only a normal TFT screen as compared to Galaxy S which spots Super AMOLED and Ipod Touch’s Retina Display.

Give yourself a closer look, all the screen are of the SAME QUALITY if not better. Of course, this picture could not justify my statement, but trust me, although HD7 uses a normal TFT screen, the quality is comparable to that of SAMOLED (minus Retina Display of course) !

(Notice that only 2 phones load my blog fully. Both are of the same brand and on the same platform. Also notice which device cant even load my background. :p)

IMG_8695

Moving on, this phone is really solid and feels good in your grip. Its not that thin and at the same time not that tick. It uses a standard micro USB for charging and synching files with your comp. 3.5inch audio in jack to fit any headphones you wish to use.

It has a teeney weeny power button on the top that is so small, you thought that was just for display. I mean come on HTC,…. i cant even press that button. It took me at least 5 tries to be able to press that. Only certain ways of holding it while pressing actually works. Most of the time, i just cant press. Talk about having big hands.. :’(

IMG_8696

IMG_8697

The speaker is located at the back of the phone as usual and is placed beside the camera. Honestly the speaker has really good treble and crisp sound, but low frequency (bass) output still lacks in this phone.

Oh wells…. 5MP camera with dual flash support that doubles up as a flash light and other normal stuff… yada yada yada… boring Nigel with his technology Jargons..

You guys must be screaming.. “Buzz off Nigel, i dont even get a single clue on what you’re talking….”

But here’s the best part….>>>

Ever get tired of the same old OS user interface out there… ?

How bout being annoyed of the 4 generations of the same old “Fruit” IOS UI?

Or maybe the boring old dull Android stock UI?

Or maybe, just maybe if you’re a loser, a phone that can only message and call…

And what if i tell you can throw that all away and get blown away by Animations, Simplicity, Stunning Graphics, Integrated applications and  of course the 9th wonder of the world, Bill Gates ( LOL ). I present you :

Windows Phone 7

IMG_8727

This is the latest Operating System for a phone, developed by our beloved Steve (Ballmer). Its a all new revamped piece of awesome coupled with speed and stability! I am really not talking about the greatness of this OS in terms of functionality but i am speaking in terms of EYE CANDY and Integration of apps!

IMG_8734

This piece of beauty is full of animations and stunning graphics with cool sound effects. It will damn sure to attract you. I mean of course if in terms of functionality it serves no purpose, but heck who the hell care about function when you can feast your eyes with the sound of RAIN or BIRDS CHIRPING when viewing the current forecast weather! AM I RIGHT? (:

I wont go further on this and leave it on the next post and i promise you, you are gonna be blown away. Again i emphasizing on Graphics not Functionality. So get it right and be prepared to see some sexy eye candy!
