Samsung NX10 Launch! HYBRID CAMERA!

April 20th, 2010, posted in Events, Random rants, Shennanigans

You’ve heard of compact cameras and for the more advanced user,  prosumer compact cameras, micro four third, rangefinder and digital single reflex lens camera. With the already bustling and competitive world of cameras, Samsung has once again (as usual) introduced a brand new product dubbed “ mirror less interchangeable lens camera “. IMG_0595

Yup! This is Samsung’s new flagship model of their newly introduced ‘next to professional’ camera. Spotting a rather cool tagline “ Why capture? Create”, Samsung is already serious in pushing this new kid on the block to compete with other types of professional cameras with the introduction of 3 lenses and 8 more by the end of this year.

The main selling point of this camera is delivering image quality of a DSLR camera with the excellent portability of a compact camera. This is achieved by having a APS-C size CMOS sensor that are mostly used in beginner or semi-pro DSLR camera. So expect stunning image quality as compared to four third because four third camera’s sensor is… four third la … of a DSLR sensor.

better noise and ISO quality in the pictures.

IMG_0561

With a 28mm sensor size, 4mm larger than a four third, you can expect a better noise and ISO quality in the pictures. Not only that, as this is a ‘hybrid camera’ you can also expect to have video recording included in this lean machine. Spotting a 720p resolution for videos, user can expect a neat all in one camera to cater all of consumer needs in ‘creating’ the kodak moment at anywhere, anytime.

Samsung has already announced that this camera is targeted to people that are upgrading from a compact camera to a better, and higher quality camera but does not want to compromise on portability and weight. But honestly, I really do think this camera has the potential to be a backup camera for most of us photographers because of all the DSLR-like features that are cramped into this baby.

Apart from all these, Samsung also boast its AF to be one of the fastest AF detection in its class. The fast precise AF is achieved thanks to the removal of AF sensor. Not only that, this baby also uses Amoled display which means no more shielding the screen to view it when taking photos under the bright sun light. =) With 3.0 inch Amoled display, you can never go wrong in taking great shots.

Other notable features of this camera includes ISO range of up to 3200, a electronic viewfinder and of course easy to use GUI that guarantee noobs like you ( =p ) would know how to operate this camera without a hitch.

Honestly after trying out this camera, i really do feel its a solid camera. Its build body is pretty tough and the grip fits perfectly in my hands. Love it. The only draw back in this camera is the noise. Yes i did say the 28mm sensor will reduce the noise, but i also did say it in terms of comparing to four third cameras. The noise in this camera when shoot in raw is pretty high but once you use Jpeg, it is reduced, mainly because, maybe Samsung implemented a noise removal software on JPEG compression. This camera has all the manual settings like on DSLR and auto mode for noobies so it is really well suited to people of all walks of life.

In a nutshell, this camera is really suited for those of you that would like to try on serious photography but does not want to compromise on portability and carry an extra weight of a video camera. Its a fully featured DSLR-like hybrid camera dubbed the ‘mirror less interchangeable lens camera ‘. Of course do not expect noise free (almost at least) perfect pictures like DSLR, but for basic use of capturing kodak moments, this camera would fit the job perfectly. Retail price would be 2.7k with a 18-55mm lens. Yes its a bit to pricey as a new Canon 550D would only cost 3.1k with lens. So pick between a small DSLR like camera or a real DSLR camera. Both has pros and cons, and their is no such thing as the best camera, just whatever that suit your needs.

National Geographic Store’s blogger session!

April 15th, 2010, posted in Events, Food, Random rants, Shennanigans, Travel

Thanks to Rebecca and Ogilvy we bloggers were given a once in a lifetime chance to experience what Nat Geo is all about (literally) and yea, we too manage to hang out with Tan Sri YTL. (that was seriously unexpected =) )

IMG_0459

Ok before we get more into the itinerary for the night, here are some fun facts for my dear readers.=)

This Nat Geo store is the 4th store in the world and 2nd in Asia.

The Nat Geo In-House Cafe is the 2nd in the world and FIRST in Asia! Woots.

The people managing the cafe and store are Singaporeans. xD

Even Singapore doesn’t have the cafe! And well, you guys guessed it right… the pioneer to all of these would be of course….>> IMG_0484

Yep! Someone who doesn’t need to be introduced. Its none other than Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, the founder of the local multibillion company, YTL Corporation. Despite having awesome classy foods and beverages, Tan Sri has already classified this get together as something informal. How more informal can it be when the first thing that Tan Sri said was “Give everyone a beer”. Not only that, Tan Sri was constantly saying that he love bloggers. He shared with all of us, his early days in pioneering YTL with bloggers. Well, as quoted by Tan Sri “ I LOVE BLOGGERS” !

IMG_0468

Tan Sri then moved on with his impromptu ‘speech’ or rather discussion with us bloggers. He was constantly getting feedback and question from us bloggers regarding our expectation on Nat Geo in terms of local contents and items. Tan Sri is really passionate in bringing Nat Geo to our shores all because of his deep love for mother nature. He then explained that this store is not about money making, profits or what not, its about educating young people on our nature. He also said that as our mother nature is fast dying, its only about time before out younger generation would not be able to appreciate it anymore and that is what Nat Geo is all about. To educate and if possible, preserve these ‘treasure’ through pictures, videos, activities and hand crafted items.

IMG_0500

Tan Sri also said “ I would be very disappointed if all of you were to buy toys that are not of Nat Geo. These toys here are to educate the younger generation! “ ( So people, you know where to get your toys next time. xD )

His passion on Nat Geo, our nature and educating the young really blew me away. Never i imagine a millionaire like him would even care about preserving our nature what more bringing Nat Geo to our shores. I salute Tan Sri for his enthusiasm.

IMG_0476

He then took passion and enthusiasm to the next level. Something that all of us don’t see it coming. He define both words in a whole different meaning.

IMG_0506

Yup! That 15 is for 15 bloggers and 888 is the price tag for National Geographic’s: The Genography Project Kit.

IMG_0512

Avid Nat Geo fans would know what a Genographic project kit is. For the rest of you, allow me to explain. Well, the Genographic Project is a project initiated by National Geographic in effort to trace our ancestors throught DNA. Its a project aimed at charting new knowledge on human migration history. In another words, the kit that Tan Sri bought for us bloggers is a kit to take samples of our DNA to be sent to a laboratory in the States to determine our origin/ancestors. =)

The whole idea of this project itself blew my mind. I’ve never heard of this and i never imagine that we could trace our roots just by using our DNA. And oh yeah, the price tag for the kit just made me go GAGA!. LOL

IMG_0513

To Tan Sri, RM13k may be nothing for him, but the passion and the outcome for this project echoed million times louder than whatever shit that other so called ‘nature lover’ would claimed. The sincerity speaks for itself and Tan Sri set us a prefect example of what preserving and loving nature is all about. Putting profits aside and concentrating solely on efforts to educate, preserve and conserve is something that we all should admire and respect.

Yup! Enough of words, now lets look at the pictures. =)

 IMG_0503

Located in the heart of the city, precisely in the upcoming up class swanky shopping mall that is receiving a new face lift, National Geographic Store would definitely be a hit among locals and tourists. To be honest, this store is not just a store. As quoted by Tan Sri, ITS AN EXPERIENCE! It offers what we could not get to feel, touch and see. It offers you an experience that would remember for life. Thats what Nat Geo promises to deliver. So guys, head down to this new kid on the block and be.. blown.. away. =)

Camwhore with him again! Agugugugu!~~~~~~

Anyway, it was such a nice thing to be able to meet familiar faces in one place. Full House did a great job in providing a conducive environment for us to be able to mingle around and have a catch with each other. It was even better that it was in conjunction with taiko’s birthday! Look at that place, the whole thing except for some tables were close for us!
