I cant believe it when i saw the headlines of the Star Online that Kak Yasmin has just left us to be with the Almighty. At 11.45pm on Saturday 25th July 2009
I was actually crying when i read the news. I was silently praying for her. This is a huge blow to our film industry.
Yasmin Ahmad is the best director in Malaysia. Her works are very very touching and it moves people regardless of race. She is a pure example of 1Malaysia.
She is a pure example of how a Malaysian should be.
Her works involves the different races in Malaysia and the issues affecting these races.
But well, as usual she was always in hot water by the Government for their close minded thinking. Even worse, Muslims thinks that Yasmin is mocking Islam and degrading it through her movie. Some even go as far to say that Yasmin is actually taking revenge on the society for disagreeing in her move to marry a Chinese.
If Tokyo Film Fest can present her with awards for her films, don’t you think there is something wrong with the government and the people? HMMMMM…………………………..
(SHHH.. no wonder they ban scene of Mat Rempit from the big screen… =_=)
If you people, actually sit down and thought about the film and the message its trying to send, you will realize all she does is telling the world how loving, graceful and beautiful Islam is.
Even an Indonesian film critic (an Islam himself) describe this movie as thought provoking and uplifting Islam in a way it needs more than the typical Malaysian thinking to understand. In another words, Malaysian – (well, you know what race lah…. =p ) are close minded and do not know how to look things from a different angle.
I actually agree with that. All these people know is to watch movie like Upin and Ipin, Sifu dan Tongga, movies by Razak Mohidee that are just plain typical and STUPID!.
Yes, i support local film industry. And i support stupid flims but only by those who really deserve a pat on their back like Afdlin Shauki.
These typical bodoh flim is what makes Malaysian unable see the message behind Yasmin’s movie.
And now with her death, i hope Malaysians will sit down and think …. realize what Yasmin Ahamd is trying to share with us all, the message behind it and what not.
I am not a Muslim, but i do get what she is trying to say, what she is doing, and how she actually tells me indirectly, that Islam is a religion of love.\
If i, as a non-Muslim gets what her film portrays, what excuse does my fellow Muslim friends have to give?
nuff said.

P.S: Good people always leave the world, first. In this case its true. Yasmin Ahmad, i hope Allah will bless you and place you together with the rest in Heaven. May God Bless You. Know that we Malaysians appreciate your work and the message you tried to portray. We love you from the bottom of our heart and you will always be remembered as a local film director that brings all races together as one. You are also the first person to embrace the 1Malaysia spirit, way before Najib did. We know you did and I’m proud to say because of you, i did embrace it too. God Bless You KAK Yasmin!!!!!!!
And as a tribute to her… lets just watch all of her ads and movie trailer and remises the memory of her …. The ads that was compiled and publish here are those that send a strong message to the public. Let us all watch and appreciate her work.
Advertisment titled Funeral. Directed by her for the Singapore’s MYCS.
This advert make me shed tears. It’s really touching.
This ad is about 2 different race kids, dating each other. This ad is to tell the world esp Malaysians that race does not matter.
If a kid that young don’t know the meaning of race and could happily mix with each other, imagine what can it do to the others, especially adult?
And FYI this is not a scripted AD. ITS SPONTENOUS AND TRUE FROM THE BOY! HOW COOL IS THAT?!
This ad is about a father that raise her daughter and living with her attic without any complaint. This movie should serve as a reminder that all parents love their kids no matte what.
Sepet Trailer. The movie that made her famous. Was well received among Malaysians except for some conservative ones who thinks promoting marriage among the Muslim and other race is a sin. Well, please just die…….
Gubra – The sequel of Sepet.
Many conservative Muslim condemns this movie and claim it degrade Islam and found many fault in the movie which sends wrong message.
Well, yes the parts that was highlighted sends out wrong message… but just from the outlook..
Like i said, her movies is thought provoking.. which means it has hidden meaning that only unconservertavi, clever people can understand what it is… Well, all i can say to those who cant see the message is … YOU ARE A BODOH FELLA!.
Muallaf, the movie that was ban by FINAS. Well, Muallaf means convert. But the movie was never about converting Islam… the movie is about forgiving one parents no matter what they did. The movie, the scene happens in real life.. and even her crew shed tears at the shooting of one of the scene cuz it happened to them too… This movie was mistaken as promoting interracial marriage and converting Islam to other religion. In another words, making Muslim Murtard. Well only those conservative mind will think like that. An art, a masterpiece has hidden meaning that only open minded people can actually embrace the idea and get the true meaning. This movie is about FAMILY and that’s it.
And lastly watched the latest interview Yasmin did with the Star on July 21. Everything she said is so true. Love you, YASMIN!
After watching all the trailers and ads, aren’t you touched? Do you realize how she made us laugh, feel, cry and most of all she made us think of one another without prejudice. Even her husband is a Chinese and her ex husband is an Indian. Who else than her can be in a position to tell us that what interracial mixing means? Only Yasmin understands how every race think and she tries to break those barrier with her movies and ads. You are a brave lady Yasmin. Kudos to the Storyteller!
